Armed robbers arrested at Cabana North Beach

Two local men were arrested and charged in connection with an early Saturday morning armed robbery at the Cabana North Beach Apartments.

Prudencio Rodriguez, 21, and Jose Manuel Santiago, 31, were arrested more than eight hours after the incident, according to their Gainesville Police Department arrest reports.

Gary R. Thunquest was sitting in the driver's seat of a car around 1 a.m., talking with Stephanie A. Cleary, who was kneeling at the driver's side door, when Rodriguez came toward him with a shotgun and shouted, "Put your hands up," and "Give me what you got," according to the reports.

Thunquest gave Rodriguez and Santiago, who was armed with a .38-caliber revolver, his wallet and cell phone.

Rodriguez and Santiago then ran away, according to the reports.

After an investigation, Thunquest identified Rodriguez out of a photo lineup as the man who robbed him.

Rodriguez and Santiago are currently being held at the Alachua County Jail.
