Another order of french fries? More potatoes?

There's no telling what UF's next on-campus sculpture will be, but a new contest aims to find a piece of art for the lawn outside the Hub along Stadium Road by this summer.

The contest is open to UF students, alumni, faculty and staff. The deadline to submit entries is Friday at 5 p.m. Photos of entries and applications must be delivered to the International Center at the Hub.

Heather Barrett, who works in the center's Office of Program Development, said UF's Office of Academic Technology and the International Center would pay the winner $1,000 and host his or her work of art in the Hub's front yard for a year. The winner will be announced April 7.

The sculpture should be made from materials suited for Florida's weather, like metal or wood, said Oaklianna Brown, a graduate student who is organizing the contest.

Artists working in paper or wax should probably not apply, Brown said with a laugh.
