Starting in the fall, UF students will see several changes on UF's campus: higher parking decal prices, a new Flavet Field band shell and renovations at Southwest Recreation Center, to name a few.
At meetings Thursday and Friday, the Board of Trustees, UF's highest governing body, unanimously approved recommendations from UF's Transportation and Parking Services to hike scooter decal prices from $36 per year to $64 per year. Car decal prices will rise from $110 per year to $122.
Trustees also approved plans to renovate several spots on campus, including the recreation center, the Flavet Field band shell and the Reitz Union Rion Ballroom.
The total cost of the renovations is nearly $25 million. The money will come from the 2008 Capital Improvement Trust Fund, which is compiled from a fee attached to tuition.
The Legislature gives universities a part of the fund every three to five years for campus improvements.
Expanding the recreation center to include a larger cardio area and an indoor track will cost about $16 million.
Tearing down the Flavet band shell and building a new one will cost almost $500,000 - an amount Student Body President Ryan Moseley said would be paid back in about a decade because UF will no longer need to rent larger portable stages for field performances.
