In response to the editorial "Concealed weapons do not belong on campus," there are a few things that I would like to say. First off, I feel that my life is worth protecting, be it by wearing a seat belt when driving or carrying a gun.
If you do not feel that your life is worth protecting, then don't carry a gun.
The fact that you throw assumptions around about concealed permit holders shows the fact that ignorance prevails in your liberal ideas.
In every study you look at, gun violence is down when you have a concealed carry policy in effect.
Gun-free zones only hurt the people who do not illegally bring a gun into said zones.
As former President Thomas Jefferson once wrote, "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms … disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.
Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants.
They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
Also, I do not think that being worried about a possible gunman on campus without the ability to protect myself in case of a life-threatening situation constitutes academic freedom.
Next time, have some hard facts to back up your argument.
