Gainesville man charged with murdering employee at Madison

A 38-year-old Gainesville man was arrested with charged with first-degree murder Friday after a witness reported the crime to police.

Corey B. Pryor was arrested in connection with Tuesday's fatal shooting of his employee, whose identity was not yet released by the Gainesville Police Department.

The shooting took place at Madison Pointe Apartments on Northwest 23rd Boulevard, where Pryor and the witness, Eric T. Woliver, live, according to Pryor's arrest report.

Woliver told police he waited until Thursday to come forward because he had been scared.

On Friday, police also arrested Bruce R. Davis, 43, after they found him driving Pryor's truck.

Davis told police he knew about the killing, and that he and the victim worked for Pryor, according to Davis' arrest report.

Davis said that on Tuesday the victim had complained about being underpaid. Later that evening, Pryor told him he had killed the victim, the report stated.

Davis told police he helped Pryor dispose of the victim's body in a swampy area in Levy County, where Davis said he believed the body would be dismembered by wild animals before it was discovered, according to Davis' arrest report.

Woliver, who is Pryor's neighbor, told police he came home Tuesday and saw Pryor in a verbal argument with the victim outside of apartment building G, where he lives.

Woliver said Pryor pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun, and the victim then threw a beer bottle at Pryor and lunged for the gun, according to Pryor's arrest report.

In a struggle for the gun, between three and five shots were fired, and the victim fell to the ground bleeding profusely, Woliver said in the report.

He said Pryor then loaded the victim's body into the back seat of his pickup truck and drove away.
