One of the finalists for UF's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences dean position will meet students, faculty and staff on campus today and Wednesday.
Paul D'Anieri, University of Kansas CLAS associate dean for the humanities since 2004, will make a presentation and answer questions during an open forum today at 9:45 a.m. in Room 1A in Library East.
D'Anieri will spend the rest of today and all of Wednesday meeting with UF deans, department chairs and other administration officials.
UF Provost Janie Fouke said D'Anieri's schedule matches the typical campus visit itinerary for a potential dean.
It's important for the candidates to meet with the people they'd be working with, Fouke said.
"It's an opportunity for a variety of groups and individuals on campus to meet these candidates, to form an opinion about them," she said. "And it's an opportunity for the candidates to form an opinion about us."
D'Anieri is the first CLAS dean candidate to visit UF's campus. The three other candidates will visit after Spring Break, Fouke said.
She said she's not sure when she will choose the dean, and she hopes someone will be in place by fall. It all depends on whether the candidate is available to start in August, she said.
"I intend to act very quickly," she said, "but I can't control their lives."
