Last Friday, Lacey Logsdon alleged that Mark McShera was being deceitful when he suggested there was wasteful spending in Student Government. As a former treasurer candidate with the Pants Party, and after careful examination of the budget, I was appalled at the wasteful spending.
I suggest that Ms. Logsdon take a closer look at the budget before hurling inflammatory accusations. I would like to inform Ms. Logsdon that SG purchases new office furniture every year for the executive branch. No other organization that I know of - for profit or otherwise - does this. This is definitely wasteful spending.
To find more problems, Ms. Logsdon should look no further than student organization budgets. Many of the organizations do not spend their money because SG refuses to allow them to spend money on things they need. The Model United Nations is only allowed to reimburse students 50 percent to compete in tournaments where they often win against schools such as Yale University and University of Virginia. Why can't we afford to send our team for free, but FSU fully funds its team? Why are we spending the money instead on new office furniture for three people? If Logsdon and the rest of the Gator Party cannot ask these questions, it is up to the students to ask the question, "Do we want an administration that is unable to admit there are problems in Student Government?"
