Construction projects will close down an unusually high number of roads in Gainesville this week.
One lane of eastbound traffic will shut down on Newberry Road near 43rd Street today and Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. while the Florida Department of Transportation investigates a severe dip in the road.
The dip is caused by a depression underneath the road, said Gina Busscher, FDOT spokeswoman.
"It kind of makes you feel like you're on a roller coaster," Busscher said.
In a few weeks, the crew will have to drill into the road to correct the problem, she said, which could close down both eastbound lanes.
Northwest Sixth Street will be shut today between Third and Fifth avenues until Wednesday while a crosswalk is installed at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Sixth Street, said Gina Hawkins, the City of Gainesville Public Works Department spokeswoman.
Another crosswalk installation will close Northwest Fourth Street at Fifth Avenue from Thursday to Feb. 18.
Lane closures along Southwest Depot Avenue between Sixth and Ninth streets will continue for at least one more week, Hawkins said.
Other construction on Depot Avenue will continue until early summer, she said.
