I was shocked on Friday when I saw that the Alligator didn't seem to think that the shooting at Northern Illinois University was front-page news. Instead, we were treated to headlines about online voting, President Machen discussing money issues, a robber confessing to police and a huge picture of people holding hands.

These are all stories that deserve to be in the Alligator, but I think that the NIU shooting should take priority over all of them. The only attention that massacre got was a very short story from The Associated Press buried on Page 12.

It seems that something as tragic as what happened in Illinois should get more attention than a failed petition for online voting. I have always been one to defend the Alligator from the constant criticism of my friends, but this was just poor reporting.
