To set the record straight about the budget situation, UF created a frequently asked questions page on its Web site on Monday.
The 18 questions and answers can be accessed through UF President Bernie Machen's page at www.president.ufl.edu/budget-reduction/faq.html.
The questions address basic facts, such as the sizes of previous, current and upcoming budget cuts and other controversial issues, including Machen's nearly $300,000 bonus last fall and rumors of disproportionate cuts to UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.
UF spokeswoman Janine Sikes said users would be able to post questions as early as today and "for sure by the end of the week."
Individual questions will be forwarded to appropriate departments and answered within about a week, Sikes said.
UF cut $34 million from its budget last semester and trimmed another $11.5 million this semester. UF will learn about future budget cuts when the state Legislature starts its session in March.
In the meantime Machen told each UF department to prepare for a potential 6 percent budget reduction, which would amount to about $40 to $50 million.
Sikes said UF would try to update the site as the Legislature adjusts the budget.
"We're still unclear as to what they're going to cut for this semester," she said. "We don't know what the forecast is going to be for next fiscal year starting July 1, so things could change that quickly."
