Valentine's Day has arrived, and couples and single hopefuls alike face the task of figuring out what to wear on that special night.
Whether you're going out with someone for the first time or celebrating yet another year with your significant other, what you wear could potentially make or break the date.
So here's some advice on what clothes guys and girls think are hot and which ones fall flat.
Girls aren't as picky as you might think when it comes to what they want their men to wear, but there are certain outfits that we find undeniably sexy on a guy.
Elise Rosato, UF journalism sophomore, said a nice pair of dark jeans and a button-up, collared shirt with the sleeves slightly cuffed looks sharp on a guy.
She's right. It's a great outfit to wear on a date and it keeps things casual but still dressy enough to show that you take pride in your appearance.
Another option is a casual T-shirt worn under a blazer. And if you feel like going with a dressier look, try adding a loose tie.
Rosato thinks that guys who just roll out of bed, put on a pair of shorts from the day before and a wrinkly or stained T-shirt shows a lack of confidence and shows they don<0x2019>t care for their appearance.
The ultimate male trend to stay away from? Skinny jeans. Stick to boot cut, guys. Men aren't meant to wear women's jeans.
But on to the ladies.
After speaking to some of my male counterparts, I was surprised to find how many girls' clothing trends guys find unattractive.
Dan Melton, UF health science sophomore, said some unattractive trends include shirts that can be worn as dresses, leggings, jeans tucked into boots, flats and velour tracksuits.
He added that one of the ultimate turn-offs for guys is when girls wear jeans that cut down to their butt cracks. As Melton so eloquently put it, "crack kills."
Melton said that if he's taking a girl to a nice restaurant, he expects heels. A pair of nice jeans with wedge heels, a nice top and a necklace is the perfect date outfit, he said.
Melton likes shirts that are that are tight up top then looser at the bottom. A nice scoop-neck top with a shelf bra, feminine cap sleeves and some movement to it would work.
The best piece of advice I received was that personality decides what looks sexy on someone. Different people can pull off different styles. But as a basic rule of thumb, stay away from trends and stick to classic styles that look good on your shape. If you do, you're sure to look sexy on your date.
