Republican presidential candidate John McCain canceled a UF "Get Out the Vote" rally scheduled for the Florida Gym on Sunday, only two days before Florida's crucial Republican primary.

Kristine Zooberg, a UF graduate student and chairwoman of Gators for McCain, which co-sponsored the event, said the cancellation was a routine last-minute change in the Arizona senator's schedule.

McCain and his signature campaign bus, the Straight Talk Express, instead spent Sunday visiting Tampa, Polk City, Gulf Breeze and Lady Lake, according to his Web site.

"The last few days before the primary are sort of unpredictable," Zooberg said.

"We just have to try to be flexible and try to understand that he needs to do what he needs to do."

McCain's online tour schedule shows plans for the candidate to visit Jacksonville, Orlando and Tampa today.

On Tuesday, the day of the primary, McCain and his supporters will hold a party in Miami.

Last week, McCain's campaign announced that UF President Bernie Machen was endorsing McCain's bid for the White House.
