Ah, writing your very own Alligator column. While it may not get you to the front of the line at your favorite club or even so much as a free beer, it will give you a chance to voice your opinion and reach out to the UF and Gainesville communities. Oh, and you even get your picture in the paper. In fact, thanks to a little thing called the Internet, you may one day achieve worldwide fame for your perfect prose. The opportunity is yours.

"Well, how do I ever go about getting the chance at my 15 minutes?" you're asking with excitement in your eyes. The answer is quite simple.

All you have to do is submit a column as your official "application" to have a shot. Submissions should be about 550 words on any topic you'd like - bonus points if it's about UF or Gainesville. All ages - from incoming freshman to graduate students - and all majors are encouraged to apply. We also welcome submissions from SFCC students.

Just send your column as a Word document to letters@alligator.org or swing by our office and bring it to our Open House between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Friday. Be sure to include your name, year, major and phone number. The best columns will be printed throughout the week, and the new columnists will be chosen over the weekend.

Good luck!
