I don't think anyone can disagree that using a cell phone in general is very distracting. This applies to cell phone use while driving, studying and even trying to cross the street. The world we live in is already dangerous enough. I mean, we've already got our plates full with wildfires, al-Qaida and Bill O'Reilly to worry about. Texting while driving endangers our roads, and the guiltiest party of all is college students.

Over Thanksgiving break, I decided to ride home with someone so I could save money on gas. Shortly after getting on the Turnpike, I noticed the driver tapping away on her Blackberry like it was no big deal. I let her know that's a dangerous thing to do, but she just shrugged it off as a joke. This kind of attitude is shared by many young people who will probably continue texting away until they crash their cars or hurt someone else.

I'm all for stupidity, as it has provided me with many, many hours of entertainment. But when you put other people's lives at risk, it is a completely different story, and it is no longer entertaining. Texting while driving is an idiotic and incredibly selfish habit that I witness all the time. Why not save the text for when you're at a red light or delegate the task to the person riding shotgun? It would make the roads much safer and prevent accidents.
