UF is moving forward with hazing charges against a UF fraternity following an anonymous tip to UF's office of Student Judicial Affairs.
UF's chapter of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity was accused of inflicting sleep deprivation and servitude on its new members, stated a letter from Chris Loschiavo, director of Student Judicial Affairs, to Fletcher Rush, president of Alpha Tau Omega.
Loschiavo wrote that Rush must schedule a meeting with him to discuss the fraternity's rights and responsibilities by Sunday.
At the meeting, Loschiavo will provide more details of the allegations, he wrote.
Members of the fraternity, known as ATO, are not allowed to participate in any events until further notice. This includes chapter meetings, social events, philanthropy events and initiation.
UF's Student Conduct Code states that hazing involves any attempts to cause physical injury, emotional stress, humiliation or academic interference to a student to gain affiliation with a student group.
The code also states that consent of victims or optional participation in hazing rituals do not count as legitimate defenses of the charges.
