I'll admit it, being bombarded with Ford hybrid commercials, Al Gore cameos and plugs for compact fluorescent lightbulbs while watching NBC this week really got me in a "green" state of mind.

So you can no doubt imagine the disappointment I felt Friday when I walked into the icebox that was the McCarty Hall auditorium. Why was it so cold? Not because the doors were open on a chilly fall day, but because the air conditioner was cranking out a relative haze of frost.

The university continues to boast its carbon-neutrality pledge and flaunt gimmicky devices (Check out those waterless toilets in Library West. Great idea.). But until UF vigilantly follows obvious energy-conserving procedures, it's all just a bunch of hot air, more of which we certainly don't need.
