I am writing to voice my opinion about cutting back the sports and fitness classes. As a student who has enjoyed taking several sports and fitness classes, I am dismayed that UF no longer finds them necessary.

Aside from the obvious benefits of making time to exercise and actually having to follow through with that commitment, these classes allow students to unwind and enjoy their elective credits. Where else will we be able to conveniently learn unique skills such as archery, fencing or bowling, not to mention traditional sports such as golf, tennis and swimming? Yes, students can go to the gym, swimming pool, tennis court or golf course, but where can they go to learn the rules and regulations of the sport?

These classes are not a waste of time. They are popular with the student body. Why take that away from us?
