I'm writing to wake up the students who go to football games here at UF. Our crowd on Saturday was embarrassing. You might say, "But we were so loud, what are you talking about?" I would ask you, how loud were you in the first half?
If you were like my friends and me, who were the only people in our section yelling while the Gators were on defense in the first half, then this letter isn't for you. But, for all of you in my section and others who sat on their hands the entire first half when our team needed a push, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
The Swamp needs to be loud all the time, not just when you feel like it. If you're going to the games as a social event and don't care as much as those of us who bleed orange and blue, then give or sell your
tickets to someone who will be loud in your place. The defense stepping up and making plays in the second half and the crowd finally getting loud at the same time was no coincidence.
Maybe this weekend taught most of you that the Swamp isn't intimidating by itself. It doesn't scare anybody when the crowd is silent. The way we were in the second half isn't commendable - it's the standard of how we're supposed to be all the time.
