UF's victory against Kentucky on Saturday didn't come without casualties.
Quarterback Tim Tebow suffered a right shoulder contusion, and Coach Urban Meyer said during his Sunday teleconference that the sophomore will not take part in any contact drills this week.
Tebow does not typically participate in contact drills anyway, but the injury to his non-throwing shoulder will result in increased concern from the coaching staff.
"He'll be fine from what [the team doctors] are telling me," Meyer said. "We have to be careful, but we have to continue to coach him up."
Tebow should be able to play through the injury, but the same can't be said for some other UF players.
Meyer said freshman free safety Major Wright is "very questionable" for this week's game against Georgia after breaking his right thumb Saturday against Kentucky.
Meyer said Wright could wear a protective cast, but the starting safety may also need surgery.
If Wright is unable to play, either Kyle Jackson or Dorian Munroe will fill in. That role will be up for grabs based on performance in practice this week, Meyer said.
Jackson, a senior, was the opening-day starter before Wright replaced him a few games into the season. Munroe played for an injured Tony Joiner in last year's Southeastern Conference championship game.
Jackson and Munroe would see the majority of any available playing time, but fellow safeties Bryan Thomas and Jamar Hornsby have also captured Meyer's attention.
After missing several weeks with a sprained MCL, Thomas is back and healthy.
"He did decent on kicking game," Meyer said. "He's a guy that's going to have to get in the rotation. Jamar Hornsby is another guy who's improved."
Meyer also said senior offensive tackle Carlton Medder suffered an injury to his heel.
PASS RUSH COMES THROUGH: After six games of blitzing mediocrity, UF finally showed a legitimate pass rush against Kentucky.
The Gators recorded a season-high six sacks Saturday. Meyer said he still needs to see more from the defensive line, but he did admit that significant progress has been made.
After defensive tackle Clint McMillan went down with a shoulder injury, freshman Torrey Davis filled in admirably.
Defensive end Jermaine Cunningham excelled with 2.5 sacks, two of which came in a key fourth-quarter Kentucky drive.
Freshman end Justin Trattou, who sacked Woodson to end the first half, said the bye week helped.
"We had a pretty decent two weeks' worth with those young players," Meyer said. "We had to get them in there. McMillan's injury forced us to get some quality playing time for some young guys. Some guys made some plays."
