Harvin bonds with former NFL receiver Cris Carter

UF coach Urban Meyer said Tuesday that sophomore wide receiver Percy Harvin has had his strongest week of practice to date.

Harvin's success has possibly been inspired by the presence of former NFL All-Pro wide receiver Cris Carter, who spoke with the team this week following the death of scout-team quarterback Michael "Sunshine" Guilford.

Meyer said the two have bonded.

"They talk to each other, and they spent some time together," Meyer said. "Cris always talks about taking your game to the next level. Percy is one of those guys that admires guys like Cris Carter."

Harvin's improvement can be also attributed to good health, a rarity for the speedy wide out who has suffered from nagging injuries since he arrived in Gainesville.

ANTWINE OUT: Sophomore defensive tackle Brandon Antwine will miss Saturday's game against Kentucky due to lower back pain, Meyer said.

The loss of Antwine means the team must look elsewhere for depth behind starters Clint McMillan and Javier Estopinan, perhaps the position where the Gators are the thinnest.

"I think Torrey Davis will play a little bit more and I'm hoping (Lawrence) Marsh and (Terron) Sanders," Meyer said. "If we get a little five-man rotation in there, I think we'll be better off."

O-LINE POTENTIAL: Meyer is very optimistic about the future of UF's offensive line.

"I just love who they are," he said. "I think the future of our offensive line, if you look at who's waiting in the wings, who's developing, who's coming back, you'll have one of the best offensive lines in college football in the next year or two here.

"You can just see it happening. I like the demeanor. I like the way they're being coached. I like the way they're working."

He is especially excited about one player in particular: freshman guard Maurkice Pouncey.

"If he keeps going, he'll be one of the best to ever play at Florida," Meyer said.
