The UF cross country teams posted results almost identical to a year ago at the Southeastern Conference Championship on Saturday.
The men finished second overall and the women came in fourth, duplicating last season's finishes
UF coach Jeff Pigg said he was pleased with the way both teams competed.
BI don?t think we should feel too bad about being second,C Pigg said of the men?s team.
But there was some success for the Gators.
Junior Jeremy Criscione earned All-SEC honors with his second-place finish overall as he came away with the best finish by a UF runner since Keith Brantly in 1983. Sophomore Sean Blaney also earned All-SEC honors after coming in 12th overall.
Arkansas won its 17th consecutive conference championship.
UF senior Steven Hassen, who has battled back from injury since the summer, finished with the fourth-best time for the Gators at 25:02.20.
Senior Scott Hans put forth what Pigg called his Bbest collegiate race,C closing out UF?s scoring five with a time of 25:07.14.
Pigg said Enoch Nadler, who finished third for the Gators, ran BsolidC despite not feeling well.
BThat?s all you can ask,C said Pigg of Nadler?s 15th-place finish.
Pigg also said he can tell the team is getting ready to peak based on the results at this meet.
BIf four of our top five guys ran the best race - in three cases the best race of their lives - that?s a pretty good sign,C he said.
Pigg was disappointed that the women fell short of second place, 12 points behind runner-up Tennessee.
Junior Jacy Kruzel, freshman Rebecca Lowe and senior Lindsay Sundell continued their consistency for the Gators, finishing first, second and third for the third consecutive race. Kruzel and Lowe each earned All-SEC honors.
Pigg said both teams will work even harder to get ready for the stretch run of the season.
BWe?re feeling pretty good and looking forward to running at the regional meet here at home in two weeks,C he said.
