I'm writing in response to the guest column on abortion. A few completely obvious points were forgotten.

I understand the idea that women lose career opportunities during a nine-month pregnancy and that time is "lost" raising a child.

But raising a child and molding a human being from an infant into an adult is infinitely more important than earning a degree or advancing a career.

I have never heard of a more selfish choice than people murdering (yes, abortion is a form of legal murder) a child so they could finish their degree, advance their career or any other self-serving, nonfatal goal.

If people don't want the responsibility a pregnancy brings, then they shouldn't have sex. There are other ways to have the same pleasure without the dangers of conception. How does someone place something non-life-threatening ahead of someone else's life?

One last counterpoint is that women and men can earn their degrees or advance their career, or do almost anything else later in life.

The idea that the value of a child's life is so low should boggle everyone's minds. Think if your parents valued their own careers more than they value you.
