I just watched the video of Meyer being arrested on CNN, and I was horrified.
The actions of those officers are repugnant to me for many reasons, including free-speech rights and the fact that Meyer didn't do anything that warranted that kind of reaction.
But what floored me most was the way your officers escalated their response so quickly.
What happened to asking Meyer to leave and escorting him out? I think it's pathetic UPD had to resort to force.
On the UPD Web site, Chief Stump says her officers belong to a "progressive law enforcement agency.C I would say the UPD is the opposite, displaying Draconian-like force in a situation that could have been handled much differently.
It was just one student - was every other option tried? That may be a huge "what ifC for UPD, because now the entire nation can see the lack of judgment displayed that day.
