As a lifelong Gators fan and UF student, I did not have much fun at last week's football game versus Western Kentucky University. My girlfriend and I had good seats - about 25 rows up - and we were close to the action with a good view. When it was time for kickoff, everyone stood up, and a fun time was to be had by all, right?
Not so much. Up until this point and all throughout the game, people were on their cell phones, signaling to their friends to leave their assigned seats from a higher section to come down to the lower section. About five minutes into the game, my girlfriend and I were a row below our assigned seat, about five seats to the left and standing sideways with no room to maneuver - not even to do the Gators chomp. When the rightful owners of those seats arrived a few minutes late, they tried to squeeze into the already-cramped spaces. We tried to get back to our original seats, but they had been taken. It took a nice member of the Gainesville Police to make enough room for us to actually see the game; even then it was very cramped. Halftime arrived, and we expected some people to leave, giving us more than breathing room. Few did. And more people were coming down to our section. Fed up, we left for the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
Gators fans, fellow students: please, we have assigned seats. You can find them on your ticket.
