Score one more for students.

Thanks to an amendment passed by the Gainesville City Commission on Monday, towing companies will be required to post a towing bill of rights in their offices.

It hasn't been written yet, but it will prohibit towing companies from charging people to see digital photos of their illegally parked cars.

We'd like to make a couple of suggestions for this list.

The most important one is that we think towing companies should be required to make their contracts with apartment complexes and businesses available online or in their offices.

Anywhere you see a "roam towing" sign with a towing company's name listed, it means that property has a contract with a specific towing company - that's how you know where to pick up your car. This could help you make decisions like where to park on a Friday night and even where to live next year.

Towing companies are finally required to accept credit cards. This bill of rights should prohibit them from charging fees for using plastic.

We hope the commission considers these ideas for its towing bill of rights. The commission has done a good job recently by requiring towing companies to be more fair to those they tow. We hope this bill of rights makes everyone - except the towers - happier.
