This year, Dance Marathon participants will quit moving and grooving five hours earlier.
Dance Marathon, a campuswide event that raises money for the Children's Miracle Network, will decrease its duration from 32 hours to 26.2 hours, according to a Dance Marathon press release.
Reducing the event's length will improve it by giving participants "a greater understanding and appreciation of what our Miracle Families undergo," the release stated.
Participants are required to stay awake and on their feet the whole time. Last year, the event raised more than ,2.3 million.
About 600 students will take part in this year's event on April 5 to April 6 in the O'Connell Center.
Jordan Bell, the event's chair and a UF history senior, said a shorter time will attract more participants. He added that 26.2 miles is the length of a standard marathon.
Mallory Ramos, event spokeswoman and a UF advertising junior, said the change would most likely be permanent, and she still expects to raise more money than last year.
"Dancers are still going to struggle, but at least it'll give them a little more motivation," Ramos said.
