Trautwein out indefinitely with stress fracture

UF offensive lineman Phil Trautwein has a stress fracture in his right foot and is out indefinitely, Coach Urban Meyer said Wednesday.

Meyer said he doesn't have a timetable for Trautwein's return, but the senior certainly won't play Saturday against Western Kentucky.

"We'll know more in the next couple days," Meyer said. "It stinks. It's the hardest thing as a coach. You hate to see it like this, especially for the really invested guys."

The preseason first team All-Southeastern Conference tackle left practice on a golf cart, sporting a blue cast on his right foot.

The senior has a history of stress fractures dating back to high school, Meyer said, but the coaching staff originally thought the injury was an ankle sprain.

"I almost fell out of my chair," Meyer said.

Jason Watkins will slide from right tackle to left tackle to replace Trautwein, Carlton Medder will take over at right tackle and true freshman Maurkice Pouncey will fill in at right guard.

Trautwein was the backup to Drew Miller at center, so true freshman Mike Pouncey will assume that job. Jim Tartt will remain at left guard.

"[Trautwein] is a captain - big loss," Meyer said. "Huge loss. The good thing is, it's an area where there's a little bit of depth and a little bit of competition."

Trautwein does have a redshirt year available, but Meyer said he is "not at that point yet."

MORE INJURIES: The practice field looked like a hospital ward Wednesday.

Running back Bo Williams, quarterback Bryan Waggener and offensive lineman Jim Barrie all left on crutches.

Cornerback Markihe Anderson walked with a limp and a brace on his right knee.

"Anderson will not play Saturday, Meyer said, "and neither will Williams.

"[Williams] is out for like six weeks. He has a dislocated ankle."

RAINEY AT CORNER: Freshman running back Chris Rainey practiced at cornerback Wednesday, senior safety Tony Joiner and cornerbacks coach Chuck Heater confirmed.

"Yeah, he worked out (at cornerback)," Joiner said. "I'm not sure what was going on with that. They just stuck him in during our two-minute offense, but I'm pretty sure the coaches have a plan for him."
