Disc Jockeys from local, nonprofit, internet radio station, Grow radio, will be playing music for patrons at The Top on Wednesday nights.

Grow Radio is making proper use of The Top — by spinning it.

Every Wednesday disc jockeys from Grow Radio will spin records and use MP3 players at The Top, a restaurant and bar in downtown Gainesville, for Grow Radio Spins The Top.

Each week a different DJ and a different style of music loosely based on his or her own radio show will play from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Dale Gunnoe, 37, is an adjunct photography professor at Santa Fe College and has been involved with Grow Radio as a DJ for about a year and a half.

Gunnoe said the idea behind the event is to provide entertainment for people at The Top and to initiate one more level of interaction with Grow Radio’s listeners.

“The best way to bring people together is through entertainment,” Gunnoe said. “We’re going to be right there on the floor interacting with everyone.”

Planning began a few weeks ago and was prompted by The Top, where Wednesdays are slower than other nights of the week, he said.

While August is somewhat of a test month to see how the public responds, Gunnoe said, there is already a waiting list of DJs interested in playing.

“It’s a treat for them and a treat for The Top, too,” he said.

The music played will be mostly upbeat. Gunnoe said he’s never seen anybody get down in there and his hope is that that will change.

The schedule of DJs will be posted on the Grow Radio Facebook page.
