Two Florida relay teams are on the top of the world.
In the final events of the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational on Saturday, the UF men’s and women’s 4x400-meter relay teams finished in first place in their respective events, setting new records in the process.
Both squads recorded the best 4x4 times in the NCAA and the world in 2015.
The women’s side—ran by Robin Reynolds, Destinee Gause, Kyra Jefferson and Claudia Francis—broke the school and meet record in the 4x4, finishing the event in 3:29.58.
The result also stands as the twelfth-fastest time in college indoor history.
The men’s 4x4 team, led by Nick Uruburu, Hugh Graham, Jr., Najee Glass and Arman Hall, (3:04.22) barely edged out the defending indoor 4x4 champion LSU squad to shatter the meet and Nutter Fieldhouse records—both of which were owned by Florida quartets.
The two performances capped off a day that resulted in more than 20 personal records in record-breaking fashion.
“So proud of our 4x4 relays. ... For the women to come in and get a school record in the first meet of the season was big, and I’m really proud of the men’s 4x4 for going out there and holding off an extremely tough LSU team,” coach Mike Holloway said in a release.
Senior jumper Marquis Dendy capitalized on his runner-up performance in Friday’s triple jump preliminaries.
One day after Holloway beckoned for better leadership from his veteran athletes, Dendy answered the call.
Regarded as one of the best triple jumpers in the country, the Delaware native captured the title in the triple jump event in Lexington, Kentucky, marking a personal-best 16.06-meter jump — the fourth-best mark in the NCAA this year.
Freshman jumper KeAndre Bates, who finished Friday’s triple jump preliminary with the best overall time, also recorded a new personal best mark, as placed behind Dendy with a 15.85-meter jump.
Senior thrower Stipe Zunic landed himself in the No. 2 spot on Florida’s all-time list for the shot put, as he launched a 19.97-meter throw on his last throw of the event.
