Florida running back Mark Thompson will not appear in UF’s game with Georgia on Saturday after police said they found marijuana in his car early Thursday morning.
University Police stopped Thompson at about 12:35 a.m. Thursday after he ran a stop sign on West Fraternity Drive, UPD spokesman Maj. Brad Barber said.
The officer smelled marijuana from Thompson’s car and found a small bag containing less than 20 grams of weed in the car, Barber said. Thompson told the officer the marijuana belonged to him.
Thompson was given a warning for failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to provide proof of insurance and a notice to appear in court for possession of marijuana, Barber said.
“This is a typical result during situations when we find that (amount) of substance,” Barber said.
Florida confirmed on Twitter that Thompson will not attend its game against Georgia, citing “some choices and decisions he’s made.”
Thompson has played in all six games for the Gators this season. The junior college transfer has 262 rushing yards, third-most on the team, and ranks second with two rushing touchdowns.
