Block tuition is not only foolish, but it’s also unrealistic.
Block tuition will hurt students financially and academically. Someone in my position as an engineer at UF who pays his way through college will have to deal with the question of whether I want to get overcharged or have lower grades.
Any engineering major at this school knows what taking 15 credits is like, especially when the average grades are only in the B+ range if you’re lucky!
This proposal would require students to either graduate at their own pace and be grossly overcharged or take an overwhelming number of classes each semester while undoubtedly getting lower grades, which benefits no one.
It’s ridiculous I worked diligently through high school and college to ensure my tuition could be paid for, and now with “100 percent” Bright Futures, I still end up paying a quarter of my tuition. So if UF really wants to institute a block tuition, maybe it should change the per-credit prices to offset it.
Why should I be required to pay for something I don’t use? Is this what UF is trying to set as an example of good business?
