Santa Fe College Student Senate passed multiple bills and approved the first part of a club’s overflow request Wednesday night.

Senators kicked the meeting off by amending a bill by Sen. Connor Levine requiring senators to meet certain standards, which included lowering the required GPA of senators in the bill from 2.5 to 2.0.

Senators also approved a $700 overflow request by the Society for Nerds to attend  MegaCon, a fan convention similar to Comic-Con, in Orlando next month. The Leadership Team will review the request.

Senate President Jeremy Pierce passed his gavel to pro-tempore Dalton King to present several bills Pierce wrote over Spring Break.

Senators approved Pierce’s first bill removing a chapter from the Student Body Constitution listing the guidelines of running a college-wide student newspaper.

A bill was tabled that would require students, clubs and Student Government branches to notify the treasurer if they fail to use all the funds allocated to them.

Senators also postponed the review of the 2015-16 SG budget because the treasurer, Aadil Muhammad, was not present at the meeting.

A bill removing a passage prohibiting campaigning inside apartment complexes failed after senators raised concerns of students being harassed by campaigners.

“My home is where I get away from this place,” Sen. Jay Bartels said. “There’s nothing wrong with it being in there, and it honestly needs to stay.”

Senators approved two more bills, one which would help speed up the allocation of funds and the other which removes the word “employee” from the SG Employee Handbook.
