A Gainesville man was arrested Tuesday after he told police officers he was selling fake crack cocaine.

According to the GPD arrest report, an officer approached Louis Williams, 42, who was standing in the middle of a busy street at about 6 p.m. Officer Brett Kikendall saw a thin stick behind William's ear that is used to clear crack pipes.

When the officer asked if Williams had drugs, Williams voluntarily stated that there was a crack pipe in his pants pocket as well "fake crack," the report stated.

Williams said that because "times are hard right now," he had been cooking fake crack cocaine with baking soda and candle wax. Williams' "fake crack" was found inside a napkin in his pocket According to the report, the fake drugs were the same size and shape as that of the crack cocaine that is sold in street level transactions. Williams was charged with sale or possession with intent to sell counterfeit drugs.
