UF students can see electric motorcycles on the Plaza of the Americas today.

UF’s Campus Earth Day celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the event, students can participate in activities, games and hear from UF President Kent Fuchs.

The motorcycles are part of the University Police’s goal to make 10 percent of the campus fleet electric vehicles over the next 10 years, according to a press release.

Jacob Adams, the office manager of UF’s Office of Sustainability, said the annual event marks the 10th anniversary of the office. To celebrate, they will hold information sessions about green tips students can follow.

Along with about 30 other UF organizations, Gators for Environmental Community Outreach and the American Water Resources Association will teach students about sustainability.

“We’re participating to promote our organization to a wider range of students who may be interested in learning more about water resources around our state,” said Emily Taylor, the 22-year-old vice president of the AWRA UF chapter.

Matthew Gonsiewski, a UF sports management sophomore, said he will attend Campus Earth Day because he recently vowed to improve his waste and recycling habits.

“I’m hoping that by signing the pledge, I will become more conscious of the environment and how my actions can negatively affect it,” the 19-year-old said.
