Margo Macpherson loved going to horseback-riding camps as a child.
Now, the UF large animal reproduction professor will serve as the vice president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners. She will be inducted into the position Dec. 8 in Las Vegas.
Sally Baker, the AAEP director of marketing and public relations, said Macpherson deserves the recognition. The association selects candidates from a pool of people who have served the organization.
Baker said Macpherson has worked on the organization’s volunteer board and is still currently involved with helping find a better way for veterinary students to apply for schools.
Macpherson said she always knew she wanted to be a veterinarian because she loves horses. She came to UF to teach in 1999. She said she’s dedicated her life to equine veterinary medicine, and she’s worked hard to become a specialist in her field.
At UF, she said she wants to serve as a role model to young veterinarians who are realizing their dreams.
"For me, it is just about moving that vision forward," Macpherson said.
Baker said Macpherson is passionate about making sure others feel included and welcome to the field of equine science.
"Her warmth and her passion and strong communication skills really shine through when you first meet her," she said.
