The UF Levin College of Law is one step closer to selecting a new dean.
After an initial search unearthed three candidates before being called off last year, a new search committee has selected 10 semi-finalists to interview at the university.
The interviews will be held at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday at the University Hilton, said Donna Winchester, strategic communications director.
In order to choose the semi-finalists, Winchester said the search committee looked at candidates’ cover letters, publications and whether they had experience at a university similar to UF.
“They’re looking for a strong candidate, someone who has both academic as well as administrative experience, who will move the law school to the next level,” Winchester said.
The committee, which is co-chaired by College of Journalism and Communications Dean Diane McFarlin and law professor Robert Rhee, is approaching this as a brand-new search.
The committee will narrow the field of candidates and invite the finalists to further interviews.
Second-year law student Jessica Kramer, 23, said the new dean should have an understanding of the students.
“One thing that I was looking for when I was looking at different law schools to go to was the different interactions between administration and students,” she said. “I think that as long as the administration maintains the transparency that they have with choosing a dean (in the past), the students will be happy.”
