Lake Wauburg is a great place for spring and summer fun, close to UF.

History of the Lake

As spring sets in, Lake Wauburg crowds with UF students who visit the park to play sports and enjoy water activities.

The YMCA donated Lake Wauburg, located 8 miles south of campus, to the student union in 1918. The lake includes the 28-acre north shore and a 65-acre south shore.

Admission and lake activities are free to UF students, faculty and staff with a Gator 1 Card. The park opens Tuesday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"You can enjoy a park that is similar or better than a state park," said Bill James, director of Lake Wauburg. "It is a beautiful setting as well."

Lake Wauburg will be celebrating its 90th anniversary this fall. Throughout the years, the lake has offered the UF community a perfect place for relaxation and fun.

Deidre Mace, a first-year management major, enjoyed spending a Saturday at the lake. "I like that there's a sand beach. It is just nice and scenic," Mace said.
