Trending Internet topics: Trayvon Martin and 'The Hunger Games'

The interwebs are starting to serve a purpose other than mindless procrastination. After Kony 2012 a few weeks ago, people are back to being social activists with the Trayvon Martin case.

The hashtag #TrayvonMartin still remains at the top of the Twitterverse, with many people taking to social media to call for justice for the 17-year-old’s life. Facebook pages for Trayvon — the most popular being Justice for Trayvon Martin — have a combined 200,000 likes.

Even NBA stars are using the Web to rally support for Trayvon. The Miami Heat’s LeBron James tweeted this pic of the team donning sweatshirts, and Dwyane Wade joined in, too. The New York Knicks’ Amar’e Stoudemire also shared a picture with accompanying hashtags #JusticeForTrayvon and #justicemustbehad.

Only time will tell who else will join the Trayvon movement as the investigation continues to unravel.

On a much lighter note, ladies and gentlemen ... “The Hunger Games.”

“Twilight” and “Harry Potter” are enjoying the sidelines this week as the newest trilogy to hit the big screen dominates the box office and meme generators.

YouTube royalty Smosh has made a list of the 12 funniest Hunger Games memes. Their approval of the book-turned movie magic gives the green light for the rest of the Web.

Someecards.com’s adaptation of the Hunger Games movement has to be one of the best thus far. They have Hunger Games cards of all categories, from confession to flirting and the workplace. The dry humor never fails to disappoint.

Until next week, happy trolling!
