Not long ago, I overheard my male roommates chatting about something I was unfamiliar with: sorostitutes.

Apparently one of my roommates’ friends brought the topic up while they were having lunch together. The friend, whose name I won’t disclose in an effort to save him face, started telling my roommate about the apparent surplus of sorostitutes around campus.

My roommate asked his friend to better describe what a sorostitute was. To nobody’s grand surprise, the term is a combination of two words: sorority and prostitute.

Imagine how shocked I was to find that a sorostitute is some outrageous mixture of the worst kind of sorority girl and the worst kind of prostitute that’s intended to create a young, spoiled, good-looking female who makes a very real and very conscious effort to seduce male students for money.

Naturally, because my faith in humanity is great (and sometimes naïve), I decided to do my own research on the term before jumping to rash conclusions. To my dismay, I found that my roommate’s friend is not absolutely mad. Actually, his theory regarding the sorostitute’s purpose is not far from the truth.

While doing some research on sorostitutes, I came upon several websites with open threads requesting fellow frat brothers’ recommendations. What were the brothers recommending, you ask?

These vile and inconsiderate brothers were sharing university, sorority and sister names that are apparently infamous for their sexual abilities. Brothers from universities across the country were posting pictures of pretty girls who, according to themselves, were some of the most easily sexually conquered women they’d ever met.

If you type in the term sorostitute on Google, you’ll be directed to countless websites with definitions, videos, tweets and recommendations on where to find the best girl for the least effort.

See, it’s hard for me not to be upset at the men and women putting these ladies on blast (by posting locations, names and pictures for all to see). These women, promiscuous or not, are human. They are individuals with passions, personalities and thought processes. And I’m absolutely certain that they had no intentions of becoming Internet famous for their sexual preferences.

The fact of the matter is that women make their own decisions. That’s right. And contrary to popular belief, women do have sexual urges.

Here’s the real kicker: sometimes, women want sex more often than men do.

And for these students and their brothers to take these women’s desires and turn them into some type of display case for trophies of domination-without-effort is absolutely disrespectful.
